Why Study in New Zealand?

New Zealand’s educational institutions are well regarded throughout the world. There is a great range of opportunities available to international students here: quality secondary school education, a well-established network of English language schools, & internationally respected & recognized tertiary education providers.

Education System

New Zealand’s education system has 3 levels:

  • early childhood education – from birth to school entry age
  • primary & secondary schools – from 5 to 19 years of age (school is compulsory from 6 to 16 years of age)
  • further education – higher & vocational education.

Our education system reflects our unique & diverse society. We welcome different abilities, religious beliefs, ethnic groups, income levels & ideas about teaching & learning. We have processes in place to give our students consistent, high-quality education at all levels.

Universities

New Zealand has 8 state-funded universities. They each offer degrees in a large choice of subjects & have strengths in specialized professional degrees. All are well recognized internationally. They work with universities in other countries on research & teaching programs, & with the business community in New Zealand & overseas on research & development.
